MMO Titanium Coating Dsa Anode Electrode refers to the dimensionally stable anode (DSA) with a mixed – metal oxide (MMO) coating on a titanium substrate.It is usually made of industrial pure titanium (Gr1/Gr2).The coating materials are mainly noble – metal oxides such as ruthenium (Ru), iridium (Ir), and tantalum (Ta). Through nanoscale particle dispersion technology, a dense protective layer is formed. For example, the RuO₂ – IrO₂ composite oxide is suitable for the chlorine – evolution system, and the IrO₂ – Ta₂O₅ mixed oxide is suitable for the sulfate system.
Advantages
High Corrosion Resistance: The titanium substrate is highly stable in most acid – base environments, and with the protection of the coating, it can withstand the strong – oxidation environment during electrolysis for a long time. Its service life is much longer than that of traditional graphite anodes and lead – alloy anodes. For example, in the chlor – alkali industry, the service life of metal anodes can reach more than 5 to 7 years, while that of graphite anodes is only 8 months.
Excellent Electrocatalytic Performance: The coating material can significantly reduce the over – potential of the electrolysis reaction, reduce energy consumption, and improve the reaction rate. For instance, in the case of a current density of 1000A/m², the chlorine – evolution over – potential is ≤200mV, which is much better than that of traditional graphite anodes (＞500mV).
Size Stability: During the electrolysis process, the distance between the electrodes will not change, ensuring that the electrolysis operation is carried out under stable cell voltage, and the cell voltage fluctuation range can be controlled within ±2%.
Application Fields
Chlor – alkali Industry: It is used in the electrolysis of brine to produce chlorine, caustic soda, and hydrogen. The RuO₂ – based coating has a low chlorine – evolution over – potential, which can improve the production efficiency and reduce energy consumption.
Metal Electrolysis and Refining: Such as the electrolytic production of nickel, cobalt, copper and other metals, as well as the refining of precious metals (gold, silver, rhodium, etc.). It can deposit metals on the cathode to form high – purity metal products.
Water Treatment: It is used in sewage treatment, seawater desalination and other fields. For example, in sewage treatment, it can oxidize and decompose organic pollutants and harmful substances in water through electrochemical reactions.
Cathodic Protection: As an auxiliary anode, it is combined with a potentiostat, a test post, and a reference electrode to form a cathodic protection system, which is suitable for various environments such as soil, fresh water, and seawater, and can protect metal structures from corrosion.
